Process: Deploying your web site

Now, we come to the final stage of your web site. It's ready for prime-time, so we're almost ready to release it to the world.

Site traffic analysis

Before your web site's launch, you need a plan to analyze what people are doing on your web site. Pretty much any information that you need, such as which pages are most popular, what web sites are referring to yours, and the last page a visitor views are all available through server logs, which are automatically recorded data of visitors to your web site.

There are many pieces of software that are very good at analyzing and building reports of this data--sometimes your web site host will even include an analyzer for free. In either case, it's very helpful to know what people are looking at so that tweaks can be made to ensure that the most visitors possible will contact your firm.

Maintenance strategy

Now that the initial work is done, it's important to develop a strategy for continuing to keep your web site fresh and up-to-date. This doesn't mean that your web site needs to have a redesign every 6 months, it means that you should continue writing articles and other content.

Advertising and marketing

Now that the web site itself is completed, advertising and other forms of marketing will help you draw more visitors and potential clients. Whether you choose traditional marketing or online advertising, make sure you keep with it for at least six months--that's generally how long it takes to see steady trends and receive more customers. Of course, some web sites will take off much quicker, especially in high-demand practices and locations.
